The elk isn't the steel. It's the space where the steel isn't.

Monarch reverses what you expect. Rather than cutting a bull elk out of the sheet and throwing the rest away, we leave the sheet whole and take the elk out of it. What hangs on your wall is a solid field of rust patina with a bugling bull opened straight through it, antlers and all.

The bent edges hold the panel an inch and a quarter off the wall, so the elk reads as pure shadow. Walk past it and the depth changes.
